NewIndPress - KURNOOL: ‘Bala Mela’ was held on Wednesday marking the third anniversary of the schools run by Sri Balasai Baba Central Trust.

The mela is also a prelude to Balasai Baba’s 46th birthday celebrations on Sankranti, January 14. Students of various schools run by the trust participated in the event. Several competitions and cultural programmes were organised.

The trust runs 60 ‘Ekopadhyaya schools’ in the downtrodden villages in the backward mandals of the district. The aim of these schools is to provide basic education without depriving them of their means of livelihood. So these schools function from 5 pm to 8.30 pm.

Sri Balasai Residential International School on the outskirts of Kurnool provides students education matching international standards at a nominal cost. There is another high school run by the trust in the city, which charges no fee from students.

The second area of focus for the trust is providing medical care. As many as 55,000 Intra-ocular lens surgeries were performed to cure people of cataract problems.

No fee? Hur hur, I'll say. The mime artist should mimic the clown.
